The Fruit Market
Dublin's iconic Fruit Market is the subject of a new documentary that features 'The Market' song.

The Market song is now featured in the Dave Tynan documentary ‘Down The Market’ performed by the renowned traditional singer Barry Gleeson.
A sung and spoken elegy for the closed Dublin Fruit and Veg market, shot over one day in February 2023.
Featuring interviews with third generation traders Justin Leonard and Margaret Hanway, and songs from Barry Gleeson, Anne Buckley and Landless.
Dave Tynan (Director): “Barry Gleeson just has one of those voices. I approached him about singing a different song, but he rightly shut that down and suggested ‘The Market’. It was one of those lovely times where somebody improves your idea way beyond what you’d conceived. Barry’s retired now but he was a teacher and ‘The Market’ was written by a student of his, Billy Treacy, who grew up right beside the markets. I loved that. It couldn’t be a better fit, like it fell out of sky for us.”
